Physical Development

Physical activity is vital in children’s all-round development, enabling them to pursue happy, healthy and active lives. Gross and fine motor experiences develop incrementally throughout early childhood, starting with sensory explorations and the development of a child’s strength, co-ordination and positional awareness.

What does that mean at Dusit?

Our Early Years Team carefully create a range of ‘continuous’ and ‘enhanced’ provisions that provide opportunities for both indoor and outdoor play. In these thought out and personalised activities our students develop both their gross motor skills and fine motor skills.

Gross motor skills provide the foundation for developing healthy bodies and social and emotional well-being. Building on:

  • Core Strength
  • Stability
  • Balance
  • Spatial awareness
  • Co-ordination
  • Agility

Fine Motor skills guide our students in control, precision and hand-eye co-ordination, which is later, linked early literacy. Building on:

  • Exploration and play with small world activities
  • Puzzles
  • Arts Crafts
  • The practice of using small tools

Through observation and feedback from our staff, children develop proficiency, control and confidence.
